It’s been quiet around here for a little while… Mainly because I’ve been busy cooking this little bun in my oven. That right there is my little lady’s first glamour shot ultrasound photos taken a few weeks ago. We couldn’t be more excited. :)
I’ll be taking a break for a little bit as this pregnancy has been taking a lot more out of me than her brother’s did a few years ago, but that doesn’t mean it’s over! Plans are already underway for a Holiday 2012 collection. In the meantime, you can find my tshirts at Velouria Boutique and Gallery and Momo in Seattle, as well as online here.
Thanks for your patience as I take time to focus on my expanding family. Who knows, I might even come back with a few new surprises too. ;)
I’m having a sale in my online shop! Now through February 14th choose from a collection of silk screened tshirts and past season samples to spruce up your wardrobe. Use the code TWENTYTWELVE to receive 20% off your order!
I caught Annie Leonard’s video, The Story of Stuff, shortly before the holidays and it blew me away. A story about consumerism, this video breaks down the production and buying habits of our culture and how it has widely gotten out of hand. Seeing this video right before black Friday, I couldn’t help but notice the commercials, television shows, newspaper ads and internet sites constantly telling me to buy buy buy! Heck, Macy’s even made Christmas season “The Shopping Season” as there slogan. Car commercials told me I NEEDED a larger SUV for my lifestyle because it was just plain embarrassing to tie large objects to the top of my small car, and cell phone commercials told me mine was outdated because the information I received via text/email/whatever was so 12 seconds ago. It made me sick!
Upon further reading on Annie’s site I found that on September 27th of this year we had what is known as a Global Overshoot Day. That means that less than 10 months into the year we had already exhausted our annual amount of the planet’s resources and ability to take in a certain amount of use. Wow.
With this year ending, I’ve decided my New Year’s resolution is to become a better consumer. I want to be conscious of where I spend my money and do my best to not fall into temptation to buy things that I don’t really need. Instead of adding more stuff in my life, I want to focus on spending more time with my family, creating more leisure time for myself, and build stronger relationships with my friends. And when I do spend my money, I want to focus on supporting small businesses and companies who choose to give back to their communities.
If you’re interested in doing the same, here are a few resources to help:
Happy holidays from our family to yours. I’ve got a few presents to wrap up and assemble for the little man that will go under the tree Christmas morning. Until then I made a little playlist to listen to of my favorite holiday tunes. Enjoy!
